Biography
During the late 1970s and early 1980s, disco producer Tony Valor notched multiple club successes while working with various ensembles and also issued material credited to himself. His initial breakthroughs arrived through productions for Maryann Farra, whose 1976 single “Do Those Little Things” marked Brunswick Records’ first 12-inch release, and for Touch, whose 1977 album Energizer followed. Under the banner of the Tony Valor Sounds Orchestra, he recorded the 1977 Brunswick LP Sounds, which yielded the club favorites “Gotta Get It” and “Ma-Mo-Ah.” He moved to the Paula label in 1978 for what proved his biggest album, Love Has Come My Way, an LP whose tracks kept appearing as club singles over the ensuing years. Those selections included the title song—a Barry White-influenced duet with protégée Carol Williams—“Opus 22,” and “Midnight Affair.” Shifting focus afterward, Valor scored a hit with Soccer on “Come and Get It On” while guiding Fantasy to the top of the disco charts in 1981 with “You’re Too Late.” He later stepped away from production to devote himself to publishing and legal matters.
