Biography
Gilles Weinzaepflen, who records as Toog, produces singular works that merge '80s synth pop textures with indie rock sensibilities, yielding original themes carried by resonant melodies. Born in Mulhouse on the Swiss-French border, he resided for several years in Marseilles in southern France prior to settling in Paris, where his musical activities began in 1995. After completing a tour with Momus and Kahimi Karie, he launched his solo trajectory, shaping incisive compositions rooted in late-'80s pop sources and enriched by soulful qualities alongside pointed lyrics. His independently issued debut, the self-titled Toog, surfaced in 1998, one year before he aligned with Momus' Analog Baroque roster. His second studio album, 6633, followed in 1999, while Easy Toog for Beginners appeared in 2001 and confirmed his advancing creative scope.
