German songwriter, producer, and DJ Topic characterizes his output as "melancholic dance music," typically layering striding house beats and airy guitar lines beneath lyrics that yearn over lost love yet celebrate escape on the dancefloor. His first full-length project arrived as the 2015 album Miles, after which he achieved global recognition via the 2019 single "Breaking Me" featuring A7S. Several of his most prominent later releases, among them 2021’s "Your Love (9PM)" and 2022’s "Kernkraft 400 (A Better Day)," rework earlier dance anthems.
Born Tobias Topic in Solingen, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, in 1992, he began crafting tracks inside a digital audio workstation at age sixteen. Social platforms helped introduce his music; the debut single "Light It Up," recorded with vocalist Jona Selle, surfaced in 2014. Miles appeared the following year and yielded further singles, notably "Home" featuring Nico Santos, which earned platinum certification in both Germany and Australia. Additional charting releases followed, including 2016’s "Find You" with Jake Reese, 2017’s "Break My Habits," and 2018’s "Perfect" with former Fifth Harmony singer Ally Brooke, his initial entry on the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart.
The worldwide breakthrough came with "Breaking Me," issued in the closing weeks of 2019 and featuring Swedish singer A7S (Alexander Tidebrink); by late 2020 the track had reached the Top Ten across two dozen territories. Santos rejoined Topic for the 2020 single "Like I Love You," while further collaborations that year paired him with A7S and rapper Lil Baby on "Why Do You Lie to Me" and with rapper Samra on "Lost."
In 2021 Topic and A7S delivered "Your Love (9PM)," their reinterpretation of ATB’s "9 PM (Till I Come)," which matched much of the original’s international reach. Additional pairings that year linked him with Bebe Rexha on "Chain My Heart," Clean Bandit on "Drive," Becky Hill on "My Heart Goes [La Di Da]," and Samra featuring Arash on "Ich bin weg (Boro Boro)." The 2022 track "In Your Arms (For an Angel)," credited to Topic alongside Robin Schulz, Nico Santos, and Paul van Dyk, reworked van Dyk’s "For an Angel," while "Kernkraft 400 (A Better Day)" offered an A7S-fronted update of Zombie Nation’s "Kernkraft 400." Topic also teamed with HRVY for the single "All or Nothing."
