Dallas, TX, trio the Trap Starz Clik generated early national attention in 2007 through their club rap single "Get It Big," a track already circulating locally in Dallas under the alternate title "Get It Bitch." Lil' High, YT, and Pacman, lifelong friends from the city's west side, first experimented with music while still in high school, treating it largely as a casual pursuit they believed required little effort. Following graduation the three pursued separate academic paths, with Pacman enrolling at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX, to compete in track and field, Lil' High attending Mountain View Community College in Dallas on a basketball scholarship, and YT entering High Tech Institute, also located in Dallas. Even while scattered across campuses, their focus remained fixed on hip-hop, prompting them to carve out time between classes to lay down numerous tracks. Once they completed "Get It Big," a cut whose energy aligned more closely with Atlanta crunk than the slowed-down, "screwed" style favored by their Houston counterparts, the group chose to push the song at neighborhood clubs and radio outlets. Issued on High4Life Entertainment, the single quickly secured regular airplay on Texas urban stations and registered on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop singles chart. Not long afterward, Universal acquired the Clik's debut album, Hood Depot, scheduling it for release in 2008.
