Biography
Instrumental rock enthusiasts pursuing guitar-centric explorations in the vein of 1980s virtuosos Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson discover the Travis Larson Band sustaining that approach well into the present century. Guitarist Travis Larson, bassist Jennifer Young, and drummer Dale Moon form the central trio, which periodically augments its lineup with strings, keyboards, and supplementary percussion. Stage appearances have aligned the group with accomplished players such as Gary Hoey, Adrian Legg, Buddy Miles—formerly drummer for Band of Gypsys—Bill Bruford's Earthworks, and King Crimson's Trey Gunn. Their recordings deliver meticulously assembled melodic compositions, beginning with the self-titled 2000 debut and continuing through 2001's Suspension, which featured a guest turn by Victor Wooten. Vinx contributed to 2004's Burn Season, while Rate of Change and the Rock Show DVD both surfaced in 2006. A live edition of Rate of Change appeared on CD and DVD in 2009, followed by Soundmind in 2011.
