Hailing from Memphis, Travis Wammack emerged as a guitarist, singer, and prodigious instrumental talent who laid down his debut recording at the age of twelve, earning recognition as one of rock & roll’s most overlooked guitar masters. Sharing the same period as Lonnie Mack, he stood out as the quickest guitarist in a city already overflowing with exceptional players. At seventeen he reached the national charts via the instrumental “Scratchy,” a blistering track defined by ferocious distortion and remarkable technical command. Additional striking singles appeared afterward, yet none registered on the charts. During the late 1960s he shifted to session duties at FAME Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL, where he contributed to numerous hits. He remains active in recording and touring, most recently serving as musical director for Little Richard, with his rapid and fiery guitar technique undiminished.
