Biography
Nathaniel Cardaci, Literature’s singer and guitarist, launched Très Oui as a distinct side project after the band’s 2014 album Chorus, while remaining anchored in jangly, melodic guitar pop. He recruited former Literature guitarist Steven Garcia, bassist Seth Whaland, and synth/electronics specialist Ian Jensen, and the four began performing in and around Austin, Texas, in 2016. With the later addition of drummer Doran Rawlinson, they issued the 2017 EP Singles Going Nowhere through Square of Opposition Records/Austin Town Hall Records in the U.S. and Waterslide Records in Japan. Following a U.S. tour that included appearances at SXSW and Athens Popfest the same year, the group reentered the studio to record its first full-length album. Poised to Flourish, which merged impulsive indie rock with the textures of ’80s new wave and a layer of airy sophisti-pop, appeared on Shrimper Records in early 2018.
