Trez Falsetto works in contemporary R&B as both a singer and songwriter, channeling the candid lyricism of forebears like R. Kelly and Chris Brown into slow jams that favor explicit themes. He first entered the recording arena in the second half of the 2010s, issuing multiple singles along with the 2018 mixtape Just Because.

Durham, North Carolina, is where Trez Falsetto was born and grew up; his earliest vocal experiences came as a child performing in church. He later took up drums and trumpet while also honing his skills on the basketball court, yet a heart condition identified in his final year of high school ended any athletic prospects. During his time at North Carolina Central University he continued pursuing music, steadily cultivating listeners via local shows and online platforms. Backed by the independent imprint Five Star Empire, he issued his initial commercial singles in 2017—the direct slow jam “Used 2” and the Swift collaboration “Blow.” Those recordings supplied the core material for the concise mixtape Just Because, which appeared online in 2018, the same year he supported R. Kelly and RBRM (the New Edition alumni Bell Biv DeVoe and Bobby Brown) on tour. Further Five Star singles, among them “Perfect,” followed across 2019.
