Genre: Jazz
Origin: U.S.A

Operating under the alternate name Alabama Harmony Boys, the seven-piece Afro-American jazz ensemble was headquartered in Montgomery, AL. During July and August 1927 the group cut a modest batch of rough recordings for release on Gennett and Silvertone. Cornet, trombone, clarinet, saxophones, piano, banjo, and drums made up the instrumentation. Every performer’s name has been lost except that of tenor saxophonist Murray Harper. Three of the band’s scarce sides—“Canned Heat Blues,” “Chicken Supper Strut,” and “Sweet Patootie”—later surfaced on the Timeless/Jazz Oracle anthology Gennett Rarities.
