Italy's Trio Carducci have emerged as an ascending young ensemble within the chamber music world. Their initial recording appeared in 2019 after the Milan-based musicians signed with the Dutch label Brilliant Classics. The group originated in 2016 when violinist Germana Porcu joined cellist Matilda Colliard and pianist Sara Costa; violinist Lorenzo Tranquillini assumed Porcu's role in autumn 2018. All three performers were recent graduates of Italian conservatories who had already launched solo careers while continuing private and collective study. Porcu completed her training at the Istituto Musicale G. Donizetti in 2010, secured several prominent prizes, and presented works by Giya Kancheli in the composer's presence. Tranquillini earned a bachelor's degree in music performance from the Conservatorio della Svizzera Italiana in 2017, undertook further study at the Hochschule für Musik in Freiburg, and has developed an active solo schedule. Colliard pursued cello and piano literature at the International Piano Academy of Imola and the Academy of Music in Fusignano, trained on both Baroque and modern cello, and joined the faculty of the Ricordi Music School in Milan. Costa has appeared throughout Europe and toured Japan. The trio worked with Russian pianist Konstantin Bogino, formerly of the Tchaikovsky Trio, and with cellist Frieder Berthold. They earned second prize at the Grand Prize Virtuoso Competition, made their London debut at the Elgar Room of Royal Albert Hall in April 2017, and returned the following year for a concert at St Martin in the Fields. Their programs span standard trios, Russian repertoire, and contemporary or seldom-heard scores. A video recording of Rachmaninov's Trio élégiaque was released in 2016, and a world tour in 2018 included multiple appearances in major Chinese cities. The 2019 debut album featured trios by Anton Arensky. Planned projects include a piano-trio arrangement of Tchaikovsky's The Seasons.
