The Miami hip-hop outfit Triple C's, also known as Carol City Cartel, emerged in 2009 behind the club anthem "Go," supported from the outset by their longtime associate and former participant Rick Ross. Their history reaches back to 1997, the year Rick Ross first began trading tracks with rapper Gunplay. Rapper Torch's arrival the next year formalized the Carol City Cartel name, yet after a stretch of mixtapes and regional releases Ross struck out alone, exiting the crew to issue his debut album, Port of Miami, in 2006. Demonstrating continued allegiance to his prior comrades—by then with Young Breed in Ross's former role—he placed Triple C's on the Port of Miami selection "It Ain't a Problem." Gunplay appeared on Ross's 2009 release Deeper Than Rap, while that same year the single "Go" and the group's first album, Custom Cars and Cycles, both arrived through Def Jam.
