Tunnels

Tunnels emerged as a quartet of inventive musicians pushing the boundaries of jazz, conceived by Swiss vibraphonist and percussionist Marc Wagnon alongside bassist Percy Jones. The latter proved central to the band's debut release, With Percy Jones, which appeared in 1994. Drummer Frank Katz joined forces with multi-instrumentalist and composer Van Manakas, and together they shaped the spastic fusion approach that defined the group's sophomore effort, Painted Rock. Issued in 1999 on Wagnon's Buckyball Music imprint, the album showcased this sound. The ensemble returned in 2002 via Progressivity, an album highlighted by contributions from guitarist John Goodsall and violinist Mark Feldman.
