Formed in 2000, the electropop trio TV Eyes brought together drummer/producer Brian Reitzell (Redd Kross, Air), keyboardist Roger Joseph Manning, Jr. (Jellyfish, Beck), and singer/guitarist Jason Falkner (Jellyfish, the Grays). After finishing his contributions to the French duo Air’s soundtrack for the Virgin Suicides film, Reitzell received an offer from Emperor Norton Records to score an imaginary follow-up to the sci-fi classic Logan’s Run, envisioned under the title Logan’s Sanctuary. Captivated by the concept, he recruited Manning for the endeavor, and the pair later invited Falkner to add vocals and guitar to several tracks. The experience proved so rewarding that the three musicians launched a fresh project shaped by the early-’80s electropop and post-punk sounds of Killing Joke, Gary Numan, and Japan. The resulting lineup proved especially cohesive because Falkner and Manning had already played together in Jellyfish while Reitzell had performed with Redd Kross. Balancing their individual commitments, the group worked methodically to fuse their shared power-pop instincts with a precise, angular synth-pop framework. Finished in 2003, the self-titled debut remained unreleased until its Japanese appearance in 2006. Only a small number of live dates took place before the album went out of print and became a coveted collector’s item. In 2014 Omnivore, a label focused on pop reissues, issued a worldwide edition that added four previously unheard bonus tracks.
