Biography
In 1999 the Columbus, Ohio duo Twin Cam operated as a stripped-down two-piece, anchored by Mike Sammons handling both drums and vocals while Mark Borror supplied electric guitar. The pair worked the city’s bar and tavern circuit, delivering sets that felt erratic and spontaneous: Sammons sang from behind the kit while Borror bounded across the stage. At times the musicians traded instruments, producing moments that were both humorous and unforeseen, all fueled by the carefree “who cares, let’s have fun” ethos that shaped the group.
During spring 2000 bassist Chad Scholtisek replied to an advertisement seeking a bass player; within weeks the expanded trio began playing live shows and polishing its first recording. Titled Columbus Day, the album was finished in June 2000, self-produced, and issued independently by Twin Cam, which intended to pursue national distribution before the year ended.
