The trio behind Los Angeles outfit Twintwelve united through a mutual affinity for pop/rock, particularly when the emphasis tilts heavily toward pop. Lead vocalist Jeny Nicholson first drew attention fronting Washington, D.C., outfit Hearsay. She later relocated to Los Angeles, where she joined My Sister Amazing and eventually connected with her future bandmates James O'Connell and Gordon Townsend. O'Connell had previously belonged to the Crosswalk and had collaborated with Cody ChesnuTT and Jon Brion. Townsend's résumé already included recordings and performances alongside Electric Light Orchestra, Part II, Paul McCartney, and Jason Falkner. The three musicians formed Twintwelve in 2002. Two years afterward they issued their self-titled debut, after which several tracks began appearing on episodes of MTV's The Real World. The band also maintains a recording studio in Silver Lake, CA, where they produce and assist emerging artists.
