Originating in Chantilly, Virginia, Twisted Tower Dire uphold the banner of traditional heavy metal through their epic fantasy anthems, which draw primary influence from foundational acts including Judas Priest and Iron Maiden. This orientation leaves the band largely insulated from contemporary trends and externally imposed styles. Established in 1995 from former members of regional outfits, the group's enduring lineup of Tony Taylor on vocals, Dave Boyd and Scott Waldrop on guitar, and Marc Stauffer on drums has issued multiple EPs plus three studio albums, each featuring a distinct bassist: 1999's The Curse of Twisted Tower with Jim Murad, 2001's The Isle of Hydra with Mike Engel, and 2003's Crest of the Martyrs with Jim Hunter, who also plays in the doom outfit While Heaven Wept.
