Biography
Two Spot Gobi emerged in 2005 as a United Kingdom-based alternative rock group centered on upbeat, groove-driven rhythms and uptempo energy. Their sound stood out for weaving cello and trumpet into an eclectic fusion of blues and jam rock, which helped them gain early attention through opening appearances alongside major stylistic peers such as Jason Mraz and Newton Faulkner. The six-piece lineup—James Robinson on vocals and guitar (a prior solo artist behind the 2004 EP Scrap Paper), Rob Lewis on cello, Dino Randhawa on guitar, Ben Matthews on drums, Ben Rosario on piano, and Matt Ellis on trumpet—found its cohesion while tracking the band’s debut EP, Melodious Star, a process that initially featured only about half of the eventual roster. By 2008 the group was preparing to issue its first full-length album together with a planned single.
