Biography

Martin Scherl, a German composer and multi-instrumentalist, fuses worldbeat with trance in a style that recalls Deep Forest and Enigma. Time among Australia's native people inspired the project name TYA, an aboriginal term for Mother Earth. Scherl sought to convey their sense of "oneness," in which individuals view themselves as elements of a greater whole, through his own music. After contributing to Sequoia Groove's Buddha Lounge series, TYA issued the album Tribal Sutras in 2001. The label released Akwaba in 2004.
