Biography
Tzvi Erez maintains an active career as pianist and producer, above all through his role as founder of the Niv Classical label, which has issued his recordings continuously since 2000. He also works as educator and researcher while extending his activities into film and television scoring.
Born in Israel in 1967, Erez began piano instruction at age six. As a teenager he relocated to Canada and enrolled at Toronto’s Royal Conservatory of Music, where his teachers included Mildred Kenton, Andrew Burashko, and Antonin Kubalek. During his studies he participated in multiple recording projects both as pianist and producer; in 1986 his performances appeared in the documentary The Twice Promised Land. Following graduation he joined Sony Music, handling tasks in distribution and production.
In 2000 Erez established the Niv Classical label and released Beethoven: Piano Works, recorded on his own 1912 Bösendorfer. Two years later he issued Tzvi Erez plays Chopin, and he has since produced more than forty additional albums for the imprint. He has further cultivated expertise in immersive sound techniques, resulting in online performance videos that have attracted a substantial audience. His classical repertoire spans the Baroque era through the twentieth century, though Chopin and Beethoven remain central to his discography. He has also achieved recognition for his arrangements and performances of music for film and television. In 2023 he released a recording of Bach’s Inventions and Sinfonias.
