Biography
Guitarist Steven R. Smith treats Ulaan Khol as his primary creative vehicle, one of several alter egos that have included psychedelic rock under Crown of Marches, Eastern European-influenced music through Hana Strana, and the experimental ensembles Thuja and Mirza. Starting in 2008, he issued a trilogy of untitled, free-form experimental rock albums under the Ulaan Khol name that adopted a darker, more atmospheric character than his earlier projects and incorporated dense layers of feedback.
