Biography
Emerging from Long Island, the pop/rock quartet Ultra High Frequency traces its roots more directly to skatepunk than comparable acts do. As mid-teens, childhood companions frontman Frank Fussa and bassist/vocalist Christopher Johanidesz crossed paths with guitarist/vocalist Jon Tehel and drummer/vocalist Dennis Joseph at a skate camp. Once Fussa persuaded the newcomers that melodies ringing in his head since age four deserved real instrumentation, the lineup locked in. The ensemble nevertheless waited until 2001, five years later, before crafting the irresistibly catchy material that soon defined its Northeast reputation. Substantial vintage guitar riffs, rough-edged harmonies, and an old-school 1960s sense of tight ensemble cohesion fueled the sound, positioning the band for major exposure once its debut album Sun Never Sets in Dramaville arrived in 2004. Positive reaction opened larger venues and secured an early-2006 support slot on fellow Long Island outfit Brand New’s intense tour. That June, Ultra High Frequency issued its second album, Matter in Time, produced with assistance from Barrett Jones, whose credits include Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Presidents of the United States of America.
