Biography
In 1994 Dont Rhine and Marco Larsen formed the Los Angeles audio collective Ultra-red after earlier working together in the performing arts troupe bang!manifesto. The pair opened an ambient club they named Public Space while also circulating the newsletter Contact: Earth Orbit Rendezvous to present their idea of ambient music as the sound culture of everyday life. Turning next to original recordings, Ultra-red issued the debut EP Ode to Johnny Rio on Terre Thaemlitz's Comatonse label, followed in 1998 by the full-length Second Nature: An Electroacoustic Pastoral and then Structural Adjustment two years later.
