Emerging amid Spain's music circles in the early 1980s, the pop/rock outfit La Unión featured singer Rafael Sánchez, bass player Luis Bolín, guitarist Mario Martínez, and keyboardist Iñigo Zabala. Their 1984 single "Lobo Hombre en Paris" reached the charts, coinciding with the release of the Nacho Cano-produced album Mil Siluetas, itself from Mecano's Nacho Cano; El Maldito Viento followed in 1985. The group self-produced Vivir Al Este del Eden three years afterward, around the period when Zabala exited and reduced La Unión to a trio. Seeking further sonic exploration, the remaining members relocated to England for sessions with Mike Howlett that yielded Tentación. On October 19, 1991, in La Coruña, they captured the live set Tren de Largo Recorrido, which gathered their strongest material. Another experimental phase took the band to the U.S., where Stephan Galfas produced Psycofunkster Au Lait, issued in 1993. Recording persisted, culminating in the 2010 album Big Bang. Guitarist Mario Martínez died on April 10, 2022, due to laryngeal cancer. He was 60 years of age.
