Biography
Unionen function as a high-voltage electric jazz quartet whose sound fuses post-bop, jazz-rock, prog, and avant-garde currents into a single fabric. The group features keyboardist Ståle Størlokken of Supersilent and Elephant9, saxophonist, bandleader, and prolific session ace Per "Texas" Johansson, bassist Petter Eldh from Koma Saxo, and drummer Gard Nilssen of Supersonic Orchestra.
Although each member stays occupied with solo and joint work, the four had long sought a shared project. Their schedules finally meshed, so beginning in early 2023 they rehearsed at every chance. During 2024 they arranged scattered concerts and maintained an active touring schedule, then committed the resulting eight-track self-titled debut to tape. We Jazz issued the album in December.
