Biography
United Ghosts emerged from Los Angeles as an alt-rock duo whose moody, melodic style draws on dark-hued electro-pop, shoegaze, and psychedelia. Co-vocalists Sha Sabi and Axel Steuerwald steered the project to international notice via its self-released 2013 debut before the pair signed with Cleopatra Records for the 2018 follow-up.
The two musicians began the endeavor in 2011 as a home-studio collaboration and issued that same year the pulsing Krautrock-influenced single “Holes Into the Night” on 7-inch vinyl, simultaneously launching both the band and its Tambourine Girl imprint. Their self-titled full-length arrived in March 2013, broadening the established blend of murky shoegaze and shadowy electro-pop while earning praise in the United States and the U.K., where Cargo Records oversaw distribution. The follow-up single “Sparks from a Cold Star” appeared later that year, and the 2015 EP Dear Electric Sun found the duo shifting toward an increasingly synth-based approach. Co-producer Mark Rains (Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Death Valley Girls) assisted Sabi and Steuerwald in recording the sophomore album Saturn Days, issued by Cleopatra in August 2018.
