Emerging onto the contemporary R&B scene as a teenage talent, Urban Mystic entered the business while still in his youth. The youngest of four siblings, Brandon Williams was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale, FL, where his father served as a church minister and immersed the family in music from an early age. Singing at the church as a child sparked his lifelong dedication, and by his teenage years he had committed fully to a professional path under the guidance of his brother Christopher. Alongside his innate vocal ability, Williams honed skills as a songwriter and meticulous producer. Adopting the stage name Urban Mystic to capture both his urban outlook and spiritual vocal style, he joined SoBe Entertainment, an imprint under Warner Music Group. The label issued his first album, Ghetto Revelations, in October 2004, fronted by the single “Where Were You?” For the project the nineteen-year-old artist collaborated with an array of seasoned producers including Kay Gee, the contemporary R&B hitmaker and ex-member of Naughty by Nature; Red Spyda, known for his edgy rap productions; and El DeBarge, formerly of the early-’80s Motown act DeBarge. At release he stood alongside peers such as Usher and Jaheim in the field of young male urban vocalists, yet his pronounced spiritual dimension set him apart. Two years later he delivered the follow-up Ghetto Revelations, Vol. 2.
