Hailing from Brighton, England, Urban Myth operates as a four-piece electro-acoustic improvisational ensemble assembled from musicians whose origins span contrasting cultural roots across two continents. Canadian natives Jim Black and Kirsten Elliott join U.K. natives Adam Bushell and Henry Collins in the lineup. Every participant functions as a multi-instrumentalist and has performed alongside an extensive range of artists stretching from Wayne Horvitz to Peggy Lee. Bushell’s earlier tenure in K-Scope, whose output appeared on LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking imprint, supplies the subtle jungle and drum’n’bass inflections audible in the group’s sound. The exploratory outfit issued its 2004 recording Live at the Friends Meeting House, captured during a performance at Collins’ Quiet House venue that featured avant-garde jazz musician Steve Beresford contributing piano and electronics.
