Detroit-based producer Uun first drew notice in the early 2010s for his meticulously crafted, pounding, and atmospheric techno, which quickly landed on major imprints such as Mord and Soma. Originally known as Ryan Malony, he sharpened his skills as a guitarist in several bands before shifting focus to electronic music. His dark, driving sound surfaced in 2013 via the Minus EP on Business Class. A string of further EPs soon followed on Eternal Drive, Dystopian Rhythm, and Teggno. In 2016 he launched his own imprint, Ego Death, devoted exclusively to his material; through it he deepened his palette into thicker, more atmospheric territory without losing the brooding dread that had already become a signature. Releases continued on Dynamic Reflection, Modern Cathedrals, and No Future but What We Make. In 2019, Bas Mooy’s Mord issued the Hell Is Empty EP, while Slam’s longstanding Soma label put out both the Architects of Fear EP and Proletarii. Uun also developed a live set that took him across numerous U.S. and European dates.
