V, identified by his distinctive smoky baritone voice, works as a South Korean vocalist, performer, and style envoy while holding primary recognition as one of the seven members in the worldwide K-pop group BTS. Kim Tae-hyung, his given name, helped the ensemble top rankings and sell out stadiums globally beginning in the late 2010s. Before launching his own project, he supplied three solo tracks to BTS albums. His formal step into the spotlight arrived in 2023 through the singles "Love Me Again" and "Rainy Days," both drawn from the debut album Layover.

Kim entered the world in Daegu, South Korea, in 1995. He showed musical leanings early by playing saxophone and singing, then entered the trainee system at Big Hit. Selected for BTS, he debuted with the group in 2013. The seven members soon reached extraordinary levels of success, becoming one of the planet’s leading acts within a few years. In addition to songwriting contributions, V received individual focus on the BTS album tracks “Stigma” from 2016’s Wings, “Singularity” from 2018’s Love Yourself: Tear, and “Inner Child” from 2020’s Map of the Soul: 7. He joined Zara Larsson on “A Brand New Day.” During the same span he composed, produced, and sang on several BTS-related pieces, among them “Friends” with Jimin, “4 O’Clock” with RM, and “It’s Definitely You” with Jin, plus self-uploaded unofficial tracks such as “Scenery” and “Winter Bear.” He also wrote “Sweet Night” for the Itaewon Class soundtrack and “Christmas Tree” for the Our Beloved Summer soundtrack.

When BTS entered a hiatus in the early 2020s, V turned his attention, like his bandmates, to solo work. He accepted ambassador positions with multiple luxury brands, appeared in several reality programs, and released his first solo album, 2023’s Layover. The brief set of minimalist, piano-driven R&B songs recorded the highest first-week sales by any K-pop solo artist in Hanteo chart history and climbed to number two on the Billboard 200. The singles “Slow Dancing” and “Love Me Again” entered the Billboard 100. He issued the single “FRI(END)S” in early 2024. That July, the traveling exhibition series “ARTSPACE: TYPE 1” opened in Seoul, Bangkok, Taipei, Vancouver, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, presenting his photo book of everyday scenes from the artist’s life in 2022 and 2023.
