Biography
A soft-spoken Vietnamese singer/songwriter, Hoàng Thái Vũ cultivated a loyal grassroots audience in the mid-2010s with his romantic acoustic material and earned the nickname Prince of Vietnamese indie. Diverging from local mainstream pop conventions, the Hanoi-based artist relied on minimal arrangements that highlighted his calm delivery and understated guitar work. Early tracks such as the 2015 release “Đông Kiếm Em” and the 2016 single “Lạ Lùng” amassed large streaming figures, and by 2017 his concerts were routinely selling out.
He had begun writing songs while still in school, absorbing the style of Western singer/songwriters including John Mayer, Damien Rice, and Jason Mraz. Music appeared under the shortened name Vu starting in 2013, allowing his gentle vocals and sparse fingerpicking to reach listeners without conventional media support. After a year-long pause in activity, he resurfaced in late 2018 with the independent full-length Hanh Tinh Song Song, an ambitious debut that broadened his sound into denser textures.
The increased attention led Warner Music Group to sign him, resulting in the 2019 single “Mùa Hè Của Em” and the follow-up album Vũ Trụ Song Song.
