Vallens

Vallens serves as the shoegaze-focused outlet for Toronto singer and guitarist Robyn Phillips. Born in London, Ontario, Phillips relocated to Toronto upon turning 18, where she logged multiple years as lead guitarist across several indie groups while gradually shaping songs for her own initial project. She adopted the moniker from her preferred movie figure, Dorothy Vallens in Blue Velvet, and started capturing atmospheric, densely layered tracks influenced by Rowland S. Howard of the Birthday Party alongside Portishead. Once she finished tracking her debut LP alongside Psychic TV’s Jeff Berner in Brooklyn, Phillips signed with Canadian indie imprint Hand Drawn Dracula and unveiled her opening single, “Tennessee Haze,” toward the end of 2015. The album Consent was then scheduled to arrive in June 2016.
