Biography
In 1987 the UK group coalesced around two core figures: Jill Myhill, formerly of Geisha Girl and handling vocals plus keyboards, and Mandy Monkham, an alumna of Fischer Z who supplied vocals, alongside a rotating cast of supporting players. Leaving Berkshire behind, they quickly built an audience both on London’s club scene and across northern Europe, where Myhill’s street-urchin charm proved a decisive asset. Demand for their skills as session players also rose, leading to work with Dave Berry, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and Alan Clayson. Yet the absence of any release under their own name prompted Monkham to launch a fresh project, while Myhill assumed the central role in Valley Of The Dolls, whose stable roster comprised Leila Liran on guitar, Beverley de Schoolmeester on bass and Vas Antoniadou on drums. The band’s original material carried an idiosyncratic edge that set tracks such as ‘Where Were You’, ‘Driver’ and ‘Hello (Your World Is Next To Me)’ apart. The last of these, produced by That Petrol Emotion’s Steve Mac, appeared as the single tied to Cloud Cuckoo.
