Biography
Brothers Van and Jacob, operating as Van Chamberlain, craft ornate, dreamy indie rock that draws from the peak of guitar-driven 2010s blog-era acts and jangle-pop outfits while also reaching into the more obscure corners of '90s alternative. The Brooklyn-based pair, after years of playing in various touring groups, launched the project in 2019 and delivered their first full-length album, In the Sun, in 2022.
Prior to Van Chamberlain, the siblings had already spent time performing live with Phantom Buffalo and with Eternal Drag, a side project of the Dodos. Having created music together since childhood, they issued their initial studio demo, "L.Y.," under the new name in 2020. Although the COVID-19 pandemic halted any immediate plans for concerts, the duo spent 2021 back in the studio shaping material for their debut. That effort culminated in April 2022 with the release of In the Sun on the Very Jazzed label.
