Van Zant

Van Zant operates as a country-rock partnership built around the Southern rock stalwarts Johnny Van Zant of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Donnie Van Zant of .38 Special, whose late brother Ronnie Van Zant once fronted Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Van Zant name surfaced initially in 1985, when Johnny fronted an album-oriented rock quintet on a self-titled record that folded after he entered Lynyrd Skynyrd two years afterward. The project resurfaced in 1998 as the brothers combined for an intended one-time release, Brother to Brother, issued through CMC International; strong listener response led them to extend the collaboration, producing the follow-up Van Zant II in early 2001. Their debut country effort, the gold-selling Get Right with the Man, reached stores in May 2005 and was succeeded in 2007 by My Kind of Country, which yielded the hit single “Help Somebody.” A concert set titled Red White & Blue surfaced in 2016, and the duo delivered the standalone single “Sweet Florida” in 2022 as a tribute to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
