Biography
Behind Vekstar’s folk-inflected pop/rock stands Mike Vecchio, the chief architect of the group’s material. Trained initially as a sound engineer, he eventually grew restless observing the creative process from the sidelines and chose instead to step forward with a solo career, performing throughout the Los Angeles area. During this time he linked up with college friend Nichole Catalano-Miller, a pianist who was likewise building a songwriting career, and the pair began working together in 2006. A gig at the Rainbow Bar and Grill drew the notice of club booker Mike Rofé, who quickly signed on as Vekstar’s drummer. The mournful, manicured sound of the band first surfaced on Everybody’s High on Complication in 2005, with the Monday Mourning EP arriving two years later.
