Biography
Velella Velella formed as a funk-tinged indie electronic outfit based in Seattle. Drawing from Parliament-Funkadelic and the Mizell Brothers on the classic side, alongside Stereolab and Beck circa Midnite Vultures in a more modernist mode, plus crate-diggers Madlib and DJ Shadow, the group operates as a quartet of multi-instrumentalists: Andrew Means, Michael Burton, Jeremy Hadley, and Sylvia Chen. Their first release on a label arrived in 2007 through Hush Records, featuring the full-length The Bay of Biscay—originally self-released independently in 2005—paired with the five-track EP Flight Club.
