Biography
Originating in Houston, Texas, during 1991, the tribal rock outfit Velvet Hammer took shape around core members singer/bassist Lynda Millard and singer/keyboardist Ginger Doss, who launched the project alongside guitarist Dana Davis and drummer Katrina Lassberg. The trio dissolved after a couple of years, prompting Millard and Doss to settle near Austin and operate briefly under the name DosMillard. By 1994 the pair had resumed performing with Davis and Lassberg under the Velvet Hammer banner, issuing the live album Live the following year. Lassberg departed shortly thereafter, yielding the drum chair to Joel Duhon. Storybook, released in 1997, drew from songs written as early as 1992 while incorporating fresh material, yet the record also marked the departures of both Davis and Duhon; Come Down arrived in 1999, cut with drummers Tawnney and Nighthawk filling the new lineup. Following an extended break, the group reconvened in the studio during 2007 to produce Somebody Else's Life.
