Vending Machine

Vending Machine serves as the solo alias for Robby Grant, guitarist in Big Ass Truck, blending lo-fi rock, folk, funk, garage, singer/songwriter pop, and any other style that catches his interest at the moment. Grant issued his first album, Unleavened Bread, through Yep Roc in 1997. He drew the project name from a track composed during one of his regular perusals of a newspaper’s business pages, a source that often fuels his writing. The four-track sequel, The Chamber From Here to There, delivered an unpredictable sequence of abrupt stylistic shifts, comically quirky production choices, and cryptic lyrics, achieving more success than its eccentric nature would suggest. Grant still appears sporadically as Vending Machine, either alone or backed by a drummer and bassist, yet he rejoined Big Ass Truck for regular performances in 2001.
