Originally based in Tucson, Arizona, the post-hardcore five-piece Versus the Mirror financed and produced their self-titled EP on their own before securing a contract with Equal Vision Records during June 2005. Equal Vision put out the EP in August, after which the group returned to the studio toward the close of the year to lay down tracks for their debut album. At that point the lineup featured Shane Ray on drums, Brad Murray handling bass, David Siebold as vocalist, and guitar duties split between Gabe Borquez and Kevin Ryan. Producer Bob Hoag, known for his work with the Bled and the Format, helped the band translate the energy of their performances onto a raw recording that avoided digital editing tools like ProTools in favor of older gear. Home came out in April 2006 as a result. Also in April, Versus the Mirror joined the Fully Down to open for Boy Sets Fire on a two-month tour across the country. Early the following year, the band revealed plans to split up amid shifting personnel, though the musicians intended to pursue further recordings with a different name. Brad Murray eventually became part of Greeley Estates, a screamo group, and Kevin Ryan connected with YouInSeries.
