Biography
Vicky Longomba significantly contributed to the development of music in Zaire. Serving as co-president of OK Jazz, he worked alongside Jean Serge Essous and Franco Luambo Makiadi to establish the nation's first dance band. In the early 1960s Longomba exited OK Jazz with Essous and entered the competing outfit African Jazz, where he helped shape the groundwork for the Congolese rumba movement. By launching his own ensemble, Orchestre Lovy, during the early 1970s, he kept advancing fresh musical groups.
