London-based Austrian-Brazilian singer/songwriter Viji crafts grunge-tinged indie pop defined by sturdy melodies and inviting lo-fi surfaces. Her 2020 single “Cherry” preceded the arrival of her debut EP, Are You in My Head, which surfaced later that year.
Vanilla Jenner spent much of her childhood moving between Austria and Brazil, absorbing an eclectic range of sounds from her father, a builder of instruments. Already proficient on multiple instruments, she concentrated on music production while attending college, settled in London, and soon obtained a position at a prominent recording studio. At the same time she refined her own rough-hewn, melody-driven material under the moniker Viji, which led to a deal with U.K. indie Dirty Hit Records. Issued in 2020, the debut single “Cherry” highlighted Viji’s skill for infectious, relaxed fuzz-pop carrying a pronounced ’90s character. That track served as the centerpiece of Are You in My Head, the EP released later the same year.
