Joey Jordison, after serving 18 years as Slipknot’s drummer, left the pioneering American metal act and assembled VIMIC from the remains of his earlier side project Scar the Martyr. Joining forces with Scar the Martyr alumni Jed Simon on guitar, Kyle Konkiel on bass, Matthew Tarach on keyboards, and Kris Norris on guitar, Jordison brought in Kalen Chase Musmecci to handle vocals for the new sextet. Recording their debut album with Kato Khandwala (My Chemical Romance, Breaking Benjamin, the Pretty Reckless), the group fused Jordison’s ballistic percussion from his Slipknot era with a downtuned post-grunge guitar sludge echoing Machine Head, Chevelle, and Volbeat. “Simple Skeletons” became their first single in May 2016. Norris exited shortly afterward, just as VIMIC unveiled the follow-up track “She Sees Everything.” June brought the arrival of a third song, “My Fate,” which preceded the release of their debut LP Open Your Omen on Roadrunner.
