Jangle-pop outfit Vinyl Devotion took shape under singer/guitarist Shalini Chatterjee, who launched the project in San Francisco in 1993. Their first release was the single "Sorry Isn't Good Enough," and the EP If They Know You're Trying appeared in 1994 under the supervision of Chatterjee's husband at the time, Scott Miller of the Loud Family. Once the marriage ended, Chatterjee settled in Winston-Salem, NC, and in 1997 recruited a fresh Vinyl Devotion lineup that joined legendary producer Mitch Easter to cut the acclaimed single "Euphoria"; the LP Floor Model reached stores in early 1998. The band's last concert took place on November 1 at New York's Mercury Lounge, after which Vinyl Devotion disbanded and Chatterjee assembled a new trio that included Easter plus his former Let's Active colleagues Jon Heames on bass and Eric Marshall on drums. Issued in summer 2000 under the simple billing Shalini, the album We Want Jelly Donuts was the result.
