Biography
Richard Franecki broke from his previous group F/I once its members indicated a wish to adopt a more song-oriented approach, prompting him to launch the freer Vocokesh instead. Drawing on the industrial sounds of Throbbing Gristle together with the space rock of Hawkwind and Pink Floyd, Franecki recruited a pair of F/I alumni and issued the vinyl-only Ispepnaibara ("Arabian Pepsi" backwards) in 1991 through the experimental label RRR. He began an enduring association with Drag City in 1992 via the EP Still Standing in the Same Garden, an outing built from improvisational jams and tape collages. Smile! And Point at the Mountain? appeared in 1995, followed by Paradise Revisited in 1998. While Franecki prepared the next Vocokesh album, the Australian label Lexicon Devil released Ispepnaibara on CD for the first time in 2001. The long-delayed Tenth Corner finally emerged in 2004 on Strange Attractors Audio House.
