Biography
After Mission of Burma dissolved, drummer Peter Prescott assembled Volcano Suns with bassist Jeff Weigand and guitarist Jon Williams, seeking to sustain rock music through a lighter, less earnest approach than his prior group. The Bright Orange Years, the band's Homestead debut, surfaced in 1985. Homestead also issued the next two albums, yet Weigand and Williams exited after All Night Lotus Party. Strong reception for the 1987 set Bumper Crop prompted SST to sign the group, which then issued Farced in 1988 and Thing of Beauty in 1989. That lineup, augmented by guest guitar from David Kleiler, stood as the strongest and final version. Career in Rock, released on Quarterstick/Touch and Go in 1991, became the band's last recording. Prescott reconstituted Volcano Suns in late 2005 for reunion concerts in Hoboken and Boston.
