Biography
Originating in Germany as a goth metal ensemble, Von Branden came together in 2004 and soon secured a recording contract with Greyfall. Solarian von Branden and Vestriz von Mesopotamien launched the project, issuing their opening demo Behind the Rain later that year and the follow-up Ignoranzkult in 2006. An appetite for sounds lying beyond conventional metal boundaries helped the band avoid blending into the pack of stylistically similar groups. They deliberately wove classical and jazz passages into their work, augmenting the arrangements with piano, sax, and cello. This singular fusion drew industry notice, allowing the Greyfall roster act to deliver its first official full-length Scherben in 2007.
