Biography
Berry pursued his studies at the University of Southern California along with the Paris Conservatoire. National recognition arrived after the 1952 premiere of his vocal orchestral composition Spoon River. Beginning in 1956 he joined the faculty of the University of Michigan, where he became head of the music theory department in 1968.
