Biography
Wally Ngonda, who had earlier played guitar and eventually led the Zairean rumba outfit Anti-Choc, issued his debut solo album in 1995. The record revisited the foundational style of African rumba, yet contemporary studio methods and overall presentation lent the material a distinctly introspective tone. Azulino supplied supplementary guitar lines, while Sam Mangwana contributed guest vocals to the title track; on the remaining songs Ngonda took center stage. The grooves retained the same vitality heard during his Anti-Choc tenure, but a subdued vocal approach together with the open, spacious mixes heightened the album’s overall resonance.
