Wally Pleasant, operating as a post-punk folksinger, applies a comic perspective to the topics of his numerous tracks, among them Ted Nugent, grandmas addicted to bingo, and late nights at Denny's. East Lansing, Michigan, serves as his home base, where he launched his recording career in 1992 on Miranda Records via the largely acoustic and minimal Songs About Stuff, though he brought in additional bandmembers for the next release, Welcome to Pleasantville, and the third album Houses of the Holy Moly; the latter reached its widest audience in 1994 on the strength of the regional hit "Alternateen." Pleasant returned to solo acoustic work with the 1996 album Wally World.
