Biography
Born in Aruba, Wally Warning developed his craft on the cuatro, the island’s signature four-string guitar, while cultivating an eclectic approach that let him move fluidly across musical styles. At seventeen he relocated to Europe, where the early-’80s single “The World Needs Love” became a hit in Holland. Another dance-floor success followed in 1984 with “Land of Hunger,” yet Warning set solo ambitions aside to play bass for the touring outfits of Sam & Dave and Lightnin’ Hopkins. Once those engagements ended, he settled in Munich, joined several local groups, and eventually resumed recording on his own, this time focusing on reggae that stretched from roots to pop. His profile rose sharply in 2007 when the buoyant single “No Monkey” emerged as a major summer hit in both Austria and Germany; the album No Monkey appeared on the Groove Attack label that August.
